Enshittification of Social Media
Lately, every platform I use has undergone subtle changes over the years, and it’s become harder to find the same joy as before. It’s clear that as profit becomes the key focus, UI is designed with more emphasis on ads rather than end customers.
Most articles or websites we come across are structured to allow Google to crawl easily. Across social media or e-commerce platforms, the emphasis is on delivering more ads and posts written to generate more clicks. Even if I complain about the cringe, I click on most such content, allowing for more similar recommendations.
Here’s where it gets interesting: AI models have been trained on such content, churning similar material, leading to a never-ending cycle.
As AI models start to move beyond text, allowing the generation of images and videos, it’ll be fascinating to see how this plays out over time
